An award-winning multi-platform journalist, John Yearwood is Editorial Director for Diversity & Culture at POLITICO. He previously served as POLITICO’s Global News Editor and Deputy Editor, Global Trade & Agriculture.
Before joining POLITICO, Yearwood spent almost 13 years as the Miami Herald’s World Editor. Before the Miami Herald, he was National/International Editor at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram in Texas. He spent a decade as a senior staff writer with the Dallas Morning News prior to the Star-Telegram.
Yearwood recently concluded two terms as chair of the Vienna, Austria-based International Press Institute, the oldest press freedom organization in the world.
He is a frequent guest speaker and moderator, facilitating at gatherings around the globe. Among them: African Import-Export Bank’s annual meeting in Seychelles; Conference of Paris; Asian Leadership Conference, Seoul; Toronto Global Forum; Good Pitch, Mumbai; UN Alliance of Civilizations Conference, Cairo; and the Atlantic Dialogues in Marrakesh.
Yearwood has been the recipient of numerous honors, including Luminary of the Year, Miami-Dade County Pillar Award, ICABA Community Builder Award, the COSMOS Distinguished Citizen Award and the Media Trailblazer Award.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Connecticut.
