Description

As Europe is confronted by climate, energy, and economic challenges, putting sustainability objectives as central to its growth could position Europe at the forefront of the green transition while taking the opportunity to accelerate the shift toward climate neutrality. That is the aim of the European Commission’s Green Deal Industrial Plan, which strives to make Europe a manufacturing hub for green investment and to enhance its competitiveness in response to the US’s Inflation Reduction Act. Is there a way for both regions to bolster their plans for economic recovery through a green lens while protecting Europe’s single market? With the Green Deal Industrial Plans’ more supportive environment, what will be the impact of clean-tech initiatives – such as the development of Green hydrogen – that are not yet scalable? Can green industrial transformation initiatives solve the intersecting and cascading challenges Europe faces – from the dangerous political situation to the need for jobs and the goal of 1.5 degrees?
