Mr. Huang Wei is the Director of the Division of Planning, Information and Knowledge Management, Department of Nuclear Energy, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Since joining the IAEA in March 2016, Mr. Huang has led the IAEA’s capacity building service in energy planning, information and knowledge management, supporting Member States to develop science-based climate and energy policy, conduct technoeconomic analyses and comparative assessments to explore the benefits and disadvantages of different energy technologies including nuclear energy, and apply nuclear knowledge and information management methodologies to ensure the crucial knowledge and data can be preserved and transferred. He also coordinates the cooperation with UN organizations and other international partners in energy planning sector and serves as the organizational focal point to the IPCC and UNFCCC. He has directly contributed to many key international events on SDGs and climate change, such as UN High Level Dialogue Forum(HLPF), UN High Level Dialogue on Energy(HLDE), UN Global Conference on Strengthening Synergies between SDGs and Paris Agreement and a number of UNFCCC COPs including COP 26. He was the lead Scientific Secretary of the first IAEA International Conference on Climate Change and the Role of Nuclear Power convened in October 2019. Mr. Huang’s career consists of a mix of diplomatic, management and engineering experience, including decades of service in the nuclear industry and government in China, along with diplomatic postings as Alternate Resident Representative of the Permanent Mission of China to the IAEA and Science Attaché in the Chinese Embassy in Washington DC. Mr. Huang holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and a Master’s degree in Nuclear Engineering.
