María Luisa Hayem Brevé has more than 18 years of experience in the area of commerce, financial inclusion and economic development strategies.
She began her career as Counselor of the Permanent Mission of El Salvador to the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva, Switzerland in 2003. From 2009 to 2016, she worked for the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and later, for the Consultative Group of Aid to the Poorest Population (CGAP), in Washington, DC, where he led projects to expand access to financial products and services in underserved populations +503 in Latin America and the Caribbean and Africa
In 2019, she assumed the position of Minister of Economy of El Salvador, where she leads, coordinates and monitors the Government's efforts to create a favorable business climate to increase public and private investment; boost exports; promote innovation and technology adoption to increase productivity; promote the growth and reconversion of micro, small and medium-sized businesses; and facilitate the creation of more and better jobs.
María Luisa has a master's degree in Law and Diplomacy, with a focus on Economic Development and International Business, from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University (USA) and a bachelor's degree in Economics and Business from the Higher School of Economy and Business (ESEN) (El Salvador). In addition, he has a Certificate in Project Management from Georgetown University (USA) and a French Language Diploma from La Sorbonne, Paris.
