Trina Bolton is a leader in media relations with 14 years of federal government experience at the intersection of public diplomacy and external affairs. She is currently an independent consultant working with The Carter Center and other organizations on sports and peacebuilding initiatives in the United States and beyond.
Until last year, Trina served as a communications specialist at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs where she led outreach efforts aimed at expanding access to health care for over 9 million Veterans.
Previously, Trina was in the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor as a press officer covering the United Nations, European affairs, and mega-events and rights protections. From 2011 to 2021, Trina served in the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs’ Sports Diplomacy Division. In concert with U.S. Embassies, she managed exchanges for sports delegations from every corner of the world. Her portfolio focused on disability rights, sustainability, and women’s empowerment.
After undergraduate studies at George Washington University, Trina dove into the policy arena at the Brookings Institution for four years and then traveled with Global Atlanta, a journalism firm covering international relations. She also holds a master’s degree from Carnegie Mellon University.
Originally from Atlanta, the 1996 Olympics and Paralympics first sparked her fascination in the power of sporting events. Trina has since run with this interest through various projects, including her co-authorship of a book on the bid process and urban development.
