Rob Placek was appointed Senior Advisor for Sports Diplomacy in the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs in January 2026.
Prior to joining the State Department, Rob served as Special Assistant to the President and Deputy Director of Presidential Advance. In this role, he managed and executed local events and domestic and foreign travel for the President. Rob served in the first Trump Administration in operations and media affairs roles in the United States Department of Agriculture and the Office of the Vice President. Across both administrations, he has executed events on the ground in 46 states and 20 countries.
Additionally, Rob was Director of Visits and Protocol at British Embassy Washington, and he has served in the offices of Senators Mike Johanns and JD Vance.
A native of the Nebraska panhandle, Rob received his Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska and completed a Fulbright Fellowship in Canadian politics at The University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada.
