The Honourable Douglas A. Smith has spent the last 30 years serving at the highest levels of government in national security. In the private sector, he is a serial entrepreneur having helped start numerous companies. Before joining Orchard, Douglas was the Managing Director for Kent Strategies, a strategic consulting firm, where he led the firm’s engagements with national security work, private equity, crisis communications, and international governments. Prior to Kent Strategies, he was appointed by President Barack Obama to serve as the Assistant Secretary for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) where he advised the Secretary and the President on the impact of the Department’s policies, regulations, and processes globally on millions of private sector companies, universities and not-for-profits institutions. Douglas graduated from Beloit College with a double major in International Relations and Journalism. Douglas lives in Vail, Colorado with his wife, daughter, and dog Fenway.
