With a background in Industrial Engineering, he has played roles of paramount relevance in the political arena, including the presidency of the National Assembly and his historic tenure as Interim President of Venezuela recognized by the free world, during the critical period between January 2019 and January 2023. Through these challenges, he has demonstrated his ability to lead and coordinate actions in the midst of adversity, demonstrating an outstanding capacity to mobilize support nationally and internationally.
His strategic approach and achievements have established him as an influential voice in the search for solutions. His role at the helm of the caretaker government, a bold step that sought to restore democracy and stability in Venezuela, not only demonstrated his commitment to governance and justice, but also his ability to articulate diverse forces in pursuit of a common goal. He is founder of the “Voluntad Popular” party and co-author of fundamental laws in Venezuela, such as the Organic Law of Referendums and the Law of Amnesty and National Reconciliation.
