Europe faces critical challenges in defense, both in terms of meeting strategic targets and responding to emerging security threats. This session will explore the current state of European political will, focusing on the urgency for stronger collective action in defense and security. As the conflict in Ukraine continues to escalate, European nations are under increasing pressure to take a more active role in resolving the crisis and ensuring regional stability. Beyond Ukraine, Europe is confronting numerous security pressures, including cyber threats, terrorism, and military modernization challenges. This session will discuss how cross-European political will can be strengthened to meet defense targets, enhance military readiness, and foster deeper cooperation among NATO and EU member states. Key topics will include the political dynamics influencing defense policy, the balancing act between national interests and collective security, and the role of strategic foreign policy in addressing both internal and external threats to the continent’s stability.
