Tore Hattrem is presently the Norwegian Ambassador to the UK. He was previously the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2019-2023), Norway’s Ambassador to the UN in New York (2017 – 2019), State Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2015 – 2016), Director General for Asia, Africa, Middle East and Latin America in the MFA (2012 - 2015. Hattrem served as Norway’s Ambassador to Afghanistan (2010 –2012), Ambassador to Sri Lanka (2007 – 2010). He was Head of MFA’s Section for Peace and Reconciliation (2002 – 2007). He joined Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1992 and has a varied diplomatic experience, including Adviser at the UN Security Council Unit (2000-2002), Embassy Secretary at Permanent Mission of Norway to the UN and the WTO in Geneva (1997-2000), and to the Norwegian Embassy in New Delhi, India (1994-1997). Before joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs he worked as Sr. Executive Officer in the Ministry of Finance as well several years as officer in the Norwegian Armed Foreces.

Hattrem holds a Master degree in Political Science (Cand. polit), and a B.S. in Economics and Political Science. He graduated from Officer Candidate School in 1982.
