Alejandro initiated his career in Risk & Insurance in 1984 working AIG Argentina & UNACO Global.in 1989 he moved to area of insurance Brokerage to work for Johnson & Higgins Argentina, later acquired by Marsh & McLennan in 1997, where he developed most of his long career in insurance in different commercial and technical positions, and specializing in Financial Risks. By 1997, he was appointed Commercial Director at age 33, and in 2011 he was designated President & CEO of Marsh Argentina & Uruguay, and Corporate Country Officer of all Marsh & McLennan companies in the same region.
His dedication to Climate Change started in 1997 in the investigation, always as a Risk Analyst, of the impact that Climate Change could have on traditional risks and how the insurance market could cope with the new environment. Since then he has been an advocate of properly assessing the impact of a new climate pattern over existing industries.
Alex, developed and presented the first climate insurance product (Carbon Bond Delivery Surety) in 2007, along with WorldBank, many years ahead of most insurance markets, to enhance investor financing for carbon sequestration.
He has been invited as guest speaker to several conferences around the world to talk about diverse subjects of Risk, Insurance, Financial Risks, Climate Change and Carbon markets (WEF – Buenos Aires; Professional Liability Underwriting Society -Washington DC; Risk & Insurance Forum – Cologne; Instituto Argentino de Ejecutivos de Finanzas – Calafate; Financiamiento Climático (CAI)- Buenos Aires; COP26 – Glasgow; Earth Day 2021 – Washington DC; and many others).
He has also been recognized by different entities around the world (Distinguished Member of Green Cross UK; 100 Most Influential Latinos in Climate Change 2021; etc.) and has actively participated and provided Risk counsel to several financial initiatives or entities (Sub-national Climate Fund; World Bank; Interamerican Development Bank and others)
Alex’s unique view of the role of the Risk and Insurance market as an enabler to enhance financial protection for Climate and Carbon projects of diverse types, has also given him an intellectual leadership role in Global Insurance industry in this specific matter.
